Opelika Answers With a 38-8 Region Win Over JAG

Opelika beat Johnson/Abernathy/Graetz 38-8 at home Friday night, its second Class 6A, Region 2 win of the season and an answer to the 31-24 region loss to Central-Phenix City a week earlier.

The Bulldogs are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the region, level with Auburn High and Carver-Montgomery and a game behind unbeaten Central-Phenix City. Opelika has scored 38 points in each of its two region wins — over Enterprise on Sept. 4 and JAG on Friday — and has allowed 21 points or fewer in three of four games. JAG dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in region play.

Opelika now has an open date. The Bulldogs return Oct. 2 at Auburn High, the 102nd meeting between the two schools, followed by trips to Dothan and Carver-Montgomery and home games against Smiths Station and Prattville.
