Transparency matters to us.
Opelika Daily News uses an AI assistant to help operate this site. Here’s what that means — and just as importantly — what it doesn’t.
What AI helps with:
- News curation — Our AI scans public news sources for stories relevant to Opelika and the Auburn-Opelika area, summarizes them, and prepares draft posts. Every article that appears on this site is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication. Original reporting always comes from the cited source.
- Weekly digest compilation — The Opelika Weekly News & Events Digest is compiled with the help of AI, which gathers and organizes the week’s local stories into a single summary.
- Site maintenance — Minor technical upkeep such as clearing the site cache, updating sidebar widgets, and small formatting fixes are handled with AI assistance.
- Social media sharing — When articles are published, AI helps prepare posts for our Facebook page. All social posts are reviewed and approved before going live.
What AI does not do:
- AI does not write original reporting or fabricate facts
- AI does not publish anything to this site without human review and approval
- AI does not make editorial decisions about what stories to cover or how to frame them
All editorial judgment — what to publish, how to categorize it, and what matters to our community — remains a human responsibility.
