Central-Phenix City Hands Auburn High Its First Region Loss, 42-10

Auburn High carried a 2-0 region record into Garrett-Harrison Stadium on Friday night and came home with a 42-10 loss to second-ranked Central-Phenix City.

Central quarterback Bobby Coleman completed 23 of 31 passes for a career-high 422 yards and four touchdowns, AL.com reported. Three of those went to Braylen Averett, covering 60, 31 and 57 yards, with the first coming on the opening play from scrimmage; Mike Bass added a 57-yard touchdown catch. It was a fourth straight win for the Red Devils, who are 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 6A, Region 2.

The result matters beyond one Friday: the winner of the Central-Auburn game has gone on to win the region in each of the past 12 seasons, 10 of them by Central.
