Auburn soccer beat Missouri 2-0 Thursday night in Columbia, Mo., for its second straight SEC shutout and its first conference win on the road this season. The Tigers are now 6-1-3 overall and 2-1-0 in the SEC.
Both goals came in a three-minute span in the first half, and junior Kelly Gordon set up both of them. In the 17th minute, Gordon dribbled along the end line and passed to Kennedy Husbands at the top of the six-yard box for Husbands’ second goal of the season. Three minutes later, off a corner kick, Gordon found fifth-year Tahirah Turnage-Morales at the near post for a tap-in.
Auburn outshot Missouri 21-7 and allowed only one corner kick. It was the Tigers’ eighth shutout in 10 matches. Auburn has given up just two goals all season, the fewest in the SEC and tied for third-fewest in the country. Goalkeeper Ayana Yapo made two saves.
“Winning in the SEC is hard and to do it on the road is even harder,” coach James Armstrong said. “I thought the defense made some big plays, particularly in the second half.”
Auburn plays at Arkansas on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+. It is the team’s first trip to Fayetteville in four years.
