State Puts $22 Million Into a New Kay Ivey Institute for Civic Leadership at Auburn University

Auburn University will receive $22 million from the state to create the Kay Ivey Institute for Civic Leadership, named for the governor, a 1967 Auburn graduate, the university announced Wednesday.

Gov. Ivey approved the money Tuesday, Oct. 20, at a meeting of the Public School and College Authority, her office said. The $27 million round also gives $5 million to the newly established Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences; both awards are for capital expenses and come from interest that has built up on PSCA bonds issued in 2020. “I am proud to award my alma mater, Auburn University, as well as the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences,” Ivey said.

Auburn says the institute will put “character, civic fluency and respect for U.S. history” at the center of leadership education. Its academic direction, programs and priorities will be worked out in the coming months. “It is an extraordinary privilege to recognize her consequential career through an institute dedicated to equipping students to lead with knowledge, integrity and purpose,” President Christopher B. Roberts said.
