Food Writer and ‘TrueSouth’ Host John T. Edge Talks Tonight at the Opelika Public Library

The Opelika Book Festival brings author and television host John T. Edge to the Opelika Public Library, 1100 Glenn St., tonight, Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. He will talk about his memoir, House of Smoke.

Edge hosts the Emmy-winning series TrueSouth on the SEC Network, writes a restaurant column for Garden & Gun and wrote The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South. He was the founding director of the Southern Foodways Alliance. In House of Smoke he writes about growing up in a home steeped in Lost Cause mythology and trying to build a more honest picture of the South.

A $25 ticket includes admission and a signed copy of the book. A limited number of free admission-only tickets were also offered. Edge will sign books and pose for photos after the program. Auburn Oil Company Booksellers is the official bookseller. Next up in the series is novelist Christina Baker Kline on Oct. 14.
