Auburn soccer beat No. 13 Tennessee 1-0 on Thursday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The Lady Vols didn’t get a shot on goal for the first 78 minutes, and the win in Auburn’s annual Kick Out Cancer match was the program’s first over a top-15 team since it beat No. 6 Arkansas in 2023.
It was also second-year coach James Armstrong’s first win over a ranked opponent at Auburn. “I didn’t know how much more we had left in us after that long road trip,” Armstrong said. “That was a heck of a performance. Every single person from the bench to the players on the field.”
The only goal came in the 25th minute. Junior Gracie Brown intercepted a pass in midfield and sent a first-time ball over the top, and forward Dylan Driver ran onto it and finished at the far post. Goalkeeper Ayana Yapo made her 50th career save late in the match, punching away Tennessee’s only shot on target.
Auburn (7-2-3, 3-2-0 SEC) has 10 shutouts in 12 matches and has given up only three goals all season. That leads the SEC, is tied for third nationally and is the fewest Auburn has ever allowed through 12 matches. Next up is another ranked opponent: the Tigers play at No. 21 Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. CT.
