Alabama lawmakers publicly praised the state’s growing role in national defense after Hanwha Defense USA’s Opelika facility was selected to assemble prototype K9 Mobile Howitzers under a U.S. Army contract worth up to $262 million.
Hanwha’s three-year lease on the Opelika property represents what the company calls a strategic commitment to invest more than $2 million in the U.S. artillery supply chain. The site is expected to generate about 40 jobs and to be fully operational in early fall.
