From the Weekend…

It was quiet at the coffee shop on Saturday.  Friends off for another Half Marathon in TN, waiting for the news of Kate & Revel’s new daughters birth, the fact that Audra actually found a stud with a “stud finder” and it was her husband. Rain Saturday and a beautiful Sunny Sunday and cooler weather on Monday and Tuesday Night.  Lots coming this weekend. More post coming… From the Archives — originally published on the… Read More

A Father’s Love…

David Bailey is the man behind the Pastrol Counceling Center “Restoration” at the First Presbyterian Church, 900 Second Avenue in Opelika and provides a monthly column for the Opelika Daily News. I recently finished reading the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.  One particular passage stood out to me as the anchor of the book’s power.  I’ll quote it here, even though taken out of context it’s probably not as evocative.  The premise is… Read More

Brewery Modernization Act Fails This Year

I received this email from Dan Roberts, VP of Legislative Support at Free the Hops… Yesterday marked the last day of the legislative session. We had hoped two pro-beer bills would be passing. Unfortunately, neither did. SB328, the Brewery Modernization Act, was the official Free the Hops bill for this session. Despite being a common-sense, pro-business bill that would create jobs and help a growing industry in Alabama (without costing a penny to the public… Read More

Air Force Tanker – Build in Alabama or Washington State?

EADS is back in the news today getting back into the bidding for the Air Force KC-135 Replacement program.  Many thought the process for the bid in Congress was slanted toward Boeing and it’s 767 Based Plan.  This fight has been ongoing for years.  EADS win of the bid was challenged, and it’s back to the drawing board.  It’s all about American Jobs.  Some in Alabama (and overseas) or some in Washington State.  From The… Read More

Saturday – Nathan Angelo at 8th & Rail

Although a newcomer to the southeast music scene, Atlanta-based Nathan Angelo has been immersed in music for over a decade. The son of a practicing minister, Nathan was surrounded by a family of musicians who nudged him to learn piano at age six. Four years later, Nathan began leading his father’s congregation in music and was later appointed the volunteer Director of Music, a title which he held until he left for college. This experience proved significant in shaping his career… Read More
