Some Final Words & Picture…

My neighbor’s son, Gabe, walked down the street today with his grandmother to see the Police cars that had gathered for the funeral of  Lee County Deputy James Anderson.   Funny what little folks see and say.  When he came back, he told me saw a police man crying.  I suspect he just saw one of many that paid final respects that reacted that way.  And tonight I know that officer Anderson had a little boy named Gabe, short for Gabriel, say… Read More

Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatic Center – More Coming This Week…

Coming later in the week, I’ll have some observations about the Opelika Sportplex and Aquatics Center.  There’s more to the center than I suspect most would know if you’ve not made the trek out to see it.  Something for everyone, or “Every Body” as the promo goes, almost doesn’t even cover it all.  You’ll find some of the pictures I took in the flickr picture trail in the sidebar.  I’ll caption them as well before weeks… Read More

Some Ramblings from the Weekend

As I was sitting on the front porch a few minutes ago, I thought that today’s weather must be like what my friend Carol in Long Beach, California gets most of the year.  Fukai Manor was getting the look of Halloween, as Lyndsay was arranging pumpkins on her freshly painted front porch.  I also knew that the ceramic pumpkin left on my mantle since last year, would again look right for the holiday.  Gosh, I… Read More

Five Times August – Thursday Night Show at 8th & Rail

Richard over at 8th & Rail has a pretty aggressive music schedule this week at the Tavern.  This Thursday Night show would be one of three not to miss this week.  I found this quote about his latest CD. Five Times August (the working name of 26-year old Dallas native Brad Skistimas) says that ‘Life as a Song’ represents his journey as a songwriter: “At the start of the album you get more innocent and… Read More

Mayfield Announces for Family Court Race

Lee County Assistant District Attorney Margaret Mayfield announced her Republican candidacy for family court judge during an early evening family barbeque on Sunday, Sept. 20.  Hundreds of friends and supporters gathered at the home of Drs. Allen and Shirley Lazenby in Opelika to support Mayfield’s candidacy, including Don Roberts, Bill Samford, Pep Melton, Bill Kelly, and Shirley Lazenby – all who offered personal words of endorsement. Auburn’s ultimate ska band Blame Sydney entertained the crowd… Read More

Lee County Deputy Dies in Line of Duty

I think in small towns more than other places, but I could be wrong, a community tends to morn the loss of life of local law enforcement in the line of duty.  Twitter, Facebbok and formal news sources were a buzz all afternoon with the word of the injury of a Lee County Deputy this afternoon.  Unfortunatley, the news ended with a sad note.  From the OA News, “ A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy has died… Read More

Quick Note About the Site!

You’ll notice the events listing on the sidebar has gone.  You can find the same information on the link above called “Community Events“.  It’s the same information, but presented a little differently.  I’ll bring back the other, when we figure out what is causing that load error when using Internet Explorer.
