Sundilla Season Ends Friday Night

A Note from Bailey Jones…. A very busy springtime for Sundilla comes to an end on Friday, but it will definitely end with a bang, since David Olney will be taking the stage alongside guitarist Sergio Webb. When David was last here in August 2006, he and Sergio were just beginning to tour together; they were incredible then, so now that they have had almost three years to practice together, it should be whatever the… Read More

So, if you’ve not made it to the Performing Arts Center of Opelika for Les Miserables, it’s Wednesday or It’s Over.  Several of us on the Southside will be there to see what Revel’s Kids do!  See you there!… Read More

Helping Andy, Help Olivia

As you may or may not know, I’m a big fan of Andy Borowitz .  This guy is funny and right on target with political humor. I get his daily poke at politics and today, he had something for me to look at from his wife.  Here’s what he said, “My amazing wife Olivia has just launched an incredibly cool website.  I guarantee that if you click on it will be the best minute of… Read More

Citizen Planning Academy Graduates First Class

For just over a month, each Monday Night, a group has gathered at the Public Works Facility in the Meeting Room to learn about the things that go into planning in the City of Opelika.  A wide variety of folks were in the classes.  I don’t want to address too much in this post, as I may discuss this in next weeks article in the OA News.  The time was well spent. I’ve learned something… Read More

…And Put Up a Parking Lot

A building most recently home of the Goodwill Store in Opelika comes down for additional parking for the First Baptist Church. The work progresses this week.  It was the old “Big Apple” when it moved from South 8th Street and Railroad, the Southern Electronics building of today.  According to Henry Stern it was built in the late 1950′s or early 1960′s. From the Archives — originally published on the Opelika Daily News on March 31… Read More

Traveling the Back Roads

I drove to Thomson for the reunion on the short route recommended by Google Maps.  Right up I-85 to Atlanta, then I-285 over to I-20.  I hate traveling the interstates.  And in the rain with Friday Traffic, it wasn’t a good drive for me. So coming back, I tool a route that Google said would take two hours longer.  It didn’t and it was very pleasent.  Lot’s of farms, cattle and pine trees.  As I… Read More

Back Home in Alabama

Gosh, my Class of 1968 Class Reunion of Thomson (GA) High School was just great. What Fun! So many faces and memories tha tgo back 40 years and more.  1968 was the year I graduated, but I started school at Laura Jones Jr. High in 1963, so friends and stories go back that far.  And then, memories of going to elementary school down the road in Warrenton.  I’m still taking it in, but it was… Read More

Thomson High School Class of 1968

I’ve made it to Thomson, Georgia for the class reunion. Hey Redman, more than a few folks had Masters Shirts on. Maybe a source of tickets.  The old high school  is the Middle School now and the old Junior High School (that’s what we called middle school back then) looks to be a Day Care Center.  The ladies of the class all look great.  A few single girls in the crowd too.  The most changed… Read More

Cost is $100. Only 300 tickets… Read More
