Always Glad to SeeYou!

Now, Redman would have you think he hates dogs. After all, he’s said he was going to leave old Snoop Dog at my house, you know, just throw him over the fence to hang with with Bo & Mitch. But, he’s not done that yet. Today, the little guys were excited to see me when I came home. And Bo was even more excited. As I looked at him, I realized why. He was chewing… Read More

The Art of RC “Drinking & Drawing”

Most folks just know him as R.C.  He’s actually Richard Cecil and is many things to many folks. To the regulars of Cafe 123, he’s one of the Bow Tied waiters that makes your salad and pours your wine.  To those that follow the fight game, he’s at home in the ring. And if you’ve noticed the ecletic selection of art on the  walls of Cafe 123, well, that is the work of RC as… Read More

Well, Tina Faye returned to Saturday Night Live last night as Governor Palin. It’s great, check it out here. The McCain camp should quietly move Tina Faye into the VP roll and at least we’d know that all her lines were planned.

It’s the Weekend – Football, Racing and Maybe a Nap or Two!

It’s Football on Saturday and the Kansas Race on Sunday around the house on the Big Screen. Watched, while dosing off a few times, the Auburn Game today. It was a win, but it didn’t cover the spread, whatever that means.  However, the Alabama game apparently did cover.  I went to watch the first half of the game at The Rail, but Richard wouldn’t let me leave and break the Karma after a Big Alabama… Read More

New Face for Old Bank

The work on the Jackie’s Card’s building, a former bank in downtown Opelika got some fast tracking this past week as work began on removing some of the exterior panels to expose the original brick.  Second and Third Floor Condo’s will be part of the new landscape for the old building.  Grabbed a quick shot as some friends had not heard about the current work. Here it is! From the Archives — originally published on… Read More

I Hope You’re Happy Now

Those were the words from Redman this morning as we passed on South 8th Street.  I think that’s the official word that summer has passed and the cooler weather has arrived.  This is when he puts away his short pants of Summer worn every day and washed very little.  Now, if you know the man, the hotter the weather the better, but let a little cool snap (and trust it’s not that cool) and he… Read More

Beggars Guild Show Added Friday Night

Richard has added some Friday Night music to the lineup this week.  Two of the Beggars Guild will do an acoustic show.  Friday Night’s show is at 9:30PM.  Here’s a little about the groups music: Their debut EP, “Breaking Me Down”, released on the Favorite Gentlemen imprint (Manchester Orchestra, Estates) features a strong collection of songs ranging from the Roots/pop “Minnesota” and the title track, to the haunting, folk/country gem “21″, and the driving rock of “Old… Read More

Gareth Asher in Opelika Saturday Night

Showtime is 9:30PM at Eighth and Rail.  If you could harness the power in Gareth Asher’s music you’d have enough hi-octane passion to fuel a Ferrari. Born and raised in the small town of Bowdon, GA, Gareth was exposed at an early age to the music of iconic artists like Jackson Browne, Don Henley and The Eagles, groups he now counts as some of his biggest influences. But everything changed one day in 1987, when… Read More

34 Days til the Big Race

No politics now! This is Nascar!  It’s just 34 days until I’ll be hanging with friends at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Pep Boys 500.  It’s a four day camping event with the loan of a Red Teardrop behind the Colorado. More coming on that soon.

Game Over! Please Lee Corso, Don’t Come Back!

Sunday Morning after an Auburn Game Day always brings robust activity to departures at the Robert G. Pitts Airport sitting on the Auburn/Opelika city limits line.  The partly cloudy skies, little wind and 66 degrees make for a nice morning flight home for fans. And if you are superstitious, you had already given up a loss to LSU as Lee Corso picked Auburn during the ESPN Gameday Broadcast from the Auburn campus Saturday Morning.  Final… Read More
