I can’t believe that old neighborhood Marine Buddy Clay hasn’t contacted us for a year. But I got an email today and did research and it was about a year ago he checked in. He’s been busy. Since a lot of regulars know Clay, I thought I’d share his email. Hey Jerry, like the new look of the website. I’m in Okinawa now, just got back from working in Thailiand and the Phillipines and will… Read More

Opelika Main Street Fun-Raiser â Lots of Fun Friday Night
First of all, I know that say’s “Fun” instead of “Fund” Raiser in the Post Title. That’s what Velinda of Main Street named the event. In this case, it’s not careless spelling on my part (at least this time!) Buddy Steve Nutter from Longhorn Steakhouse provided the food for the event at the Old Depot downtown. Just over a hundred folks were on hand for the music of “Route 66″, plus the Silent and Live Auction. … Read More
Carolyn Dean Wildflower Trail Dedicated
It was fun to watch. Carolyn was brought to the event, which she thought was to honor the Master Gardeners for their work on this little trail thru the woods, located by the Salem Shotwell Bridge at Monkey Park. Carolyn came down, thru the archway with her name on it, and not noticing that yet, listened to the complements for the group. Mayor Fuller greated her (picture below) and told of her work in the… Read More
You Must Be a RedneckâŚ
So, for some reason, I’m getting the “Satellite Lost” on the TV this morning, over and over. So at lunch, I checked and no wonder. There’s Kudzu growing all over the dang dish. So, you must be a Redneck, if you loose single due to Kudzu on your backyard dish.

Season Finale of “Lost” on ABC
We have a little group that gathers at Fauki Manor to watch ABCâs Show âLostâ! Thursday is going to be a long day, as the Season Finale for Season Four is Thursday Night. Itâs a 2 Hour show that should have lots of final answers and as I suspect with âLostâ, lots of questions going to the new and final season next year. This is a funny show to watch, because, you think each week… Read More
Moms & Tots Opens in Downtown Opelika This Week
Moms and Tots is a new consignment store for Motherâs to be and those new babies. The store is scheduled open this week. Itâs the old Cameragraphics Opelika location. I know theyâve been stocking the building for weeks, so (Mandie) you need to stop in and shop.

So, Who’s That Guy on the Left?
I love it when I get a hold of some old pictures of people that we should know. Now, i don’t have confirmation on this yet, but I think I know who the guy on the left is. Friend Mona was on the web looking for a band (she loves her music) and came accross this one. If Redman or Henry Stern don’t figure this one out, I’d be surprised. I really don’t want to… Read More

Opelika Main Street Gets New Website
Velinda at Opelika Main Street is pretty excited about their new website, which can be found at a new address. It’s www.opelikamainstreet.org now instead of the shortened version of the name previously used. You may want to check your bookmarks!   Along with this new logo, the site apparently has a user interface to allow Main Street Staff to more easily update the information. Also features is a blog page (copycat) that Velinda is using… Read More
Crawford Melton bit byCottonmouth
He’s okay now, after spending a few nights in EAMC getting the anti-venom treatment. I spoke with him on Saturday about this painful event. It seems he found the snake in the garage Friday, cut it in half with ax, then as he went to grab the front half of snake to throw away, he got bit on the finger. Read More about the Cottonmouth here! From the Archives — originally published on the Opelika… Read More
The Week Ahead
Lots of things going on this week. The Memorial Day services are at City Hall Monday morning. Read more about that here ! I stopped by Hal Smith’s to check gas prices (oh yea, and maybe pick up some Sam Summer Ale). This would be a ten cent increase in about 10 days the way I figure it. A couple of things going on around town. A new place to shop if your going to have a… Read More
