It was called a Progressive meet and Greet this evening downtown for the Opelika Main Street Annual Dinner. Snacks, drinks and conversation at L&M Interior Design, Envy Salon, Eighth & Rail and The Brass Brassiere was presented for attendees, before heading to the depot for dinner from Jimmy’s.   I was just handing with the kids. Front left to right, Richard & Mary Patton, Robert and Pam Smith (accross the table from each other), and Lindsay… Read More

Pictures from the Weekend
I’ve got the pictures taken from the park posted this weekend. One is ”All Rocket All The Time” and the other is the KOB Fundraiser! Here’s a Link to the Rocky Brook Rocket Pictures from Weekend! And another Link to Keep Opelika Beautiful’s Garden in the Park!

Unity Run Big Success
The Envision Opelika Unity run was just one more reason the place to be on Saturday was Opelika. I didn’t hear the final count of participants, but it was a well run professional race which I hope finds it way back to Opelika next year.

Rocket Man
Let’s see… I finally got a ride on the Rockey Brook Rocket. Here’s that picture. The Rocket made its first run around Monkey Park, on July 1, 1955 at 6:05PM. The tracks was installed by Central of Georgia Railroad, at no cost to the city. The money to purchase the train & track was loaned to the city by a group of local civic clubs. Is that George and Debbie with their children in the two… Read More
Pancake Breakfast was Big Success

Some were saying this was the biggest event of it’s type for several years. I suspect, the Breakfast, Race, Garden in the Park and return of the Rocky Brook Rocket was the big draw for the day. With forecast of rain for Saturday, folks got out early and stayed as the sky’s remained blue.Â

Garden in the Park
This was the third year for this money raiser for Keep Opelika Beautiful. I hate the Executive Director Shirley Flora missed the event, as she’s in the hospital. And of course, I wish her all the best for a speedy recovery. Rain passed to the north and south of Opelika, but we were spared any event damping action. Lots of great vendors were there with great things for the home and yard. I’ll get the pictures… Read More
Martha’s Trouble Saturday at Eighth &ďż˝Rail
If asked about the recent developments with Martha’s Trouble, the responses are “things have come full circle,” or “this was meant to be.” For Jen and Rob Slocumb, things have never looked better for the long time duo. With 7 albums under their belts, the husband-wife act has not faltered in their dedication to make a name for themselves in over a decade. They aren’t lacking in recognition, either, with numerous awards from national radio… Read More
Flight Training â Even a Caveman Can Do It!
I suspect we saw some flight training in town this week with a Giant Geico Banner being towed around the area. After all the A Game is this weekend. Confirmation of this guess comes on Saturday. Look to the skies.

Earth Hour is Saturday Night at 8PM
Mayor Fuller had made a comment in the paper today to remind folks to turn off the lights on Saturday Night at 8PM for Earth Hour. So, what’s Earth Hour? Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of March 29th at 8PM local time to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions. Busy Saturday in Opelika &Â Area
Let’s see. Of course Keep Opelika Beautiful’s Garden in the Park is over in Monkey Park Saturday from 9AM til 4PM. Lots of great spring gift ideas, plus the return of the Rocky Brook Rocket. Rides from 10AM til Noon! Before Garden in the Park, it’s Envision Opelika’s Unity Run.
