John Bull Back in Opelika Saturday Night

Eighth & Rail has no live music on Friday night, and John Bull on the stage on Saturday Night.  Bull always draws a good crowd with his bluesy sound. I actually enjoy a Friday or Saturday without music from time to time.  I suspect some of the oldtimers will join us for some fun at the Tavern.  Next week lots of music with the Star Songwriter Series on Wednesday Night. More on all that music over the… Read More

Fuller Defends Council Decision from Newspaper Attack

I ran into Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller over the weekend at the Arbor Day event in downtown Opelika. We were discussing a letter he had just written to the OA News about the Editorial against the Pay Raises voted in recently by City Council. The vote was 3-2 In Favor of the move, that I personally agree with.  The raises don’t take effect until the next term, which probably will bring back all current Council… Read More

The following is from the band’s website:   Last year was an incredible one for Five Star Iris – some might even say life-changing. Supporting their debut full-length album FIVE STAR IRIS produced by the Grammy-winning Sylvia Massy-Shivy and Rich Veltrop, the band traveled far and wide to take their “modern version of classic… Read More

Senate Bill 355 – The Homebrew Beer Bill in Alabama

Well, it’s on the agenda if the folks in Montgomery can get anything done this year. That was a problem for the 2007 session and it appears to be again this year.  This allows us to do homebrew beer, which is technically a no-no now. Section 1. (a) Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary, a person who is not prohibited by Section 28-1-5, Code of Alabama 1975, from purchasing, consuming, possessing, or transporting alcoholic beverages… Read More
