Happy New Year2008

Well, I guess I’m just getting older or maybe wiser. Grabbed a couple of beers at BW3 and caught the beginning of the Auburn game. As I write this, I’m home, watching the game on ESPN in High Definition! Man, nothing looks better in HD, than does ESPN. And that’s it, I’m in for the night! Talked to several folks heading for spend the night parties, or some stay at home Game parties. It’s all… Read More

Resolutions

I will catch more live music in 2008 than i did in 2007. I will try each of the 125 beers at the Mellow Mushroom in Auburn. I will get a Colonoscopy. I will find my birthmother. I’ll take Bo to the groomer more this year than last. I’ll walk to work more! I’ll walk Bo more! From the Archives — originally published on the Opelika Daily News on December 30, 2007. Holiday Break for 8th & Rail

Richard & Mary always take a break from the Tavern after the holdays.  It’s starting a bit early, since the Rail isn’t open for a New Years Party this year. Auburn Football, which has been working against bars all season, is in the bowl game on New Years Eve, so it’s Lights Out for a few weeks at The Rail. I suspect you’ll find some of the regulars wandering around with that Lost look in their… Read More

Christmas and Beer (Grand Ridge Brewery)

I understand that Christmas has passed, but I’ve not been able to discuss another one of those traditions that goes along with the day, and that would be beer.  Each year, friends in Australia pack a six pack of beer, mark it as paper plates or something stupid like that and send it to me for the Holiday. They spend about $75 in postage to send about $10 in beer, but it some you can’t… Read More

Big Music Schedule in January

I’ll have the music line-up at Eighth & Rail in a few days.  I was taking a look back at last year and the tavern was pretty busy on weekends with the music. Richard has promised the same when they return from the Holiday Break!

Personal Holiday Notes

A couple of new holiday traditions may have been born for me this past week. A Christmas Eve Breakfast prepared by the Captain and his First Mate. In attendance, some that were working that Christmas Eve and some that were off for the Holiday.  Later a Cold Beer for an old friend who also found himself at Best Buy wanting to spend some Christmas Green. I think before it was over he found himself Framed! Christmas… Read More

8th Street Market

Got a note from Dan Gunter on a Promo Video he had shot for the 8th Street Market in Downtown Opelika. It’s the Old Badcock Furniture Store if you’re a newbee to town and a Woolworth’s as well in years gone by.  It’s also got some promo on some other development that John Rice is doing, but I see Sally Dean is involved, so take a peek.   From the Archives — originally published on… Read More
