It’s a Tax Vote on Tuesday

It’s never easy when citizens are asked to vote on new taxes.  In this case, it’s a 7 mil increase on property taxes to help schools in Auburn, Opelika & Lee County.  I’ve talked to several folks about this and it’s a split vote among my friends.  For a typical property owner, the increase in taxes for a $100,000 property would be about $6 per month. The increase would also affect your tax fees.  In… Read More

Sawtooth Roadtrip

Well, here’s one more picture from my roadtrip a week or so ago to Hailey, Idaho. This was about 20 minuets north of Ketchum, which has been under attack of wild fires the past week . In fact, our offices in Hailey have had issues with smoke for the past week.     The company I work for , Wicks has recently merged with Marketron International and taken a new name of Marketron Broadcast Solutions.  My trip… Read More

On the Road Update

Well, it’s darn pretty around town today . I’m working between a few mountains in a well known valley.  Good work session today.  The folks here are really nice, and we’ve done some nice bonding.  But wait, is that a Brew Pub down the street? (Actually there are several) Why yes it is.  I’m certainly not as famous as most that come to the area, but it was fun to hang with some locals in… Read More

New Rec Center – Make That a Yes Vote!

I headed over to City Council’s Work Session after work to hear the discussion on the new recreation center for Opelika. If you can remember back, Envision Opelika brought a recommencation for a new recreation center several years ago. There have been some plans, a cost estimate, a new estimate that cost more and the final word at the meeting on Tuesday Night.  The cost had grown to 40 Million, but council said to take… Read More

It’s another one of those busy Tuesdays.   The Farmer’s Market in downtown Opelika on Railroad Avenue starts at 3PM. What, What & How to Teach Character to Our Young People

I attended the lecture by Dennis Parker at Opelika Middle School on Monday Night. Dennis Parker is a football coach, but more importanly is the way he coaches, which included teaching kids about Character.  He spent 45 minutes to discuss the high points of the 8 hour series that OMS teachers will be introduced to on Wednesday. So how, do I condense my comments into a few words?  Gosh, that might be hard to do. … Read More
