Too Early to Think About the Masters?

If you remember, I told you how to sign up to get Practice Round Tickets for The Masters .  Nothing is for sure, but the first step is to get on the list, so you can make your request. Phase One – Complete! Not sure if anyone took my advice, but Redman and I both got our Applications about a week ago.  If we get tickets, we find out in September.  No mail from Augusta… Read More

Can We Talk Taylor (Just a Little Bit More)? Taylor Hicks “In Your Time”

Mona at work has a CD, signed by Taylor Hicks from a Visit to the FloraBama in the late 1990′s (I knew she was old).  “In Your Time” which says “To Mona – Taylor Hicks” in a ballpoint pin.  The Sharpie hadn’t made it’s debut I suspect for the autograph seeker.  I’ve seen the CD on ebay the past few weeks.  A Taylor fan would probably want a copy.  It’s just like most early works… Read More

Arlo and Janis on “Beer”

Having finished off a cold Mexican Beer (or two) with Jimmy Johnson on Tuesday Night (we had to at least talk about Taylor Hicks after all – You know, first Tuesday without American Idol on TV!!), I thought I’d post this “Oldie” he posted to his site today.  He added some additional comments, so read it here! Opelika Gets New Historic Marker – Honors Dallas Smith

Well, I’m a had the dedication of this marker on my calender for last week and missed the event.  Not good for me, as I’m on the Opelika Historic Preservation Society Board.  But good for OHPS , as we can do one of the things the group was started for and that’s to remember history and local folks for what they did.  Shirley Flora talks about this in the Wednesday OA News, in an article, which… Read More

Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

Didn’t post anything over the weekend, as I kicked back and took it easy.  It should be a busy week, or at least weekend in Opelika. First Friday this week downtown and the Red Cross Art Auction is on Saturday .  You can get a peak at the stuff on auction on Friday Night at Flip Flop Foto on South 8th Street. Eighth & Rail has the music of Ashton Allen on Friday Night. That’s… Read More

Clear View of the Southern Sky

I knew the day would come, but hoped I had another year or so.  It’s been two years since I had Direct TV installed.  Somehow, we found a hole in the trees to get in the programming to the dish.  But, spring has brought new growth to those hundred year old Pecan Trees in the back.  So, I’m loosing some of my favorite channels.  The tech guy told me this morning, I could cut back… Read More

Fellowship, The Rail & No Smoking

Crawford is hosting the Fellowship at his house this evening.  Call if you need directions. The Rail is open this evening, but no live music.  They close for the holiday weekend Saturday and return on Wednesday. Has it been 90 days? Guess so! Opelika goes Non Smoking on Saturday . I’ve seen some folks grumbling about it.  It should be fun to watch in coming days. From the Chamber… The City of Opelika will observe Memorial… Read More

Paving the Street

About 60% of Railroad Avenue repaving was done on Wednesday.  It looks pretty nice.  I’ve been grabbing pictures of the entire project since it began , which I’ll put in a picture page in coming weeks!  (You can search “railroad” to see the other post from past weeks!) PS: The new street lights were on this evening for the first time!! From the Archives — originally published on the Opelika Daily News on May 25… Read More

Blog Notes

Okay, let’s see.  Coming Saturday you can read about ”A Clear View of the Southern Sky”, a sad tale.  I’ve held it off for the holiday weekend, due to Idol chat for another day or so. Also some pictures of the work on Railroad Ave that is coming to an end.  New paving down today! Fellowship This Week? Nope, it’s the Holiday Weekend and I may just slip out of town! Gathering at The Rail for… Read More
