I heard those words again this week while sitting in on some Social Media training centered on LinkedIn, but encompassing several other areas before the 90 minute session was done. Actually I’m sitting in on three sessions this week, a bit more than I normally do, but realize it’s well worth my time.
Sometime over the past several weeks I was discussing blogs with Trey Gafford. Trey has been around advertising for most of his life and his newest venture into Digital looks and sounds very exciting. Having done several different blogs over the past few years I was curious on his thoughts of the value of the Blog today, with everyone on Facebook and other places. He echoed what I heard today and for the past several months that Blog content drives social media.
As a Blogger for the past 12 years or so, I think I’ve found myself getting lazy. You know, it’s easier to grab a picture, make a quick comment and post to Facebook or Twitter of the fifteen other channels out there. Blogging isn’t a source of income for me, but I do enjoy writing even if former editors of the OA News didn’t particularly like my style a few years ago. It didn’t fit the format of old school textbook newspaper writing, you know? I’ve recently dropped a few paid sponsors so allow me some liberty to get back into personal rants from time to time, after all, we do have some elections coming within days. I have automated some of the process, so that blog post will flow to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, so I guess I need focus to keep the content relevant.
I’ve blogged most recently as Opelika Daily News (the name of the city newspaper of the 1960’s), Camper Jerry, Jerry Katz plus a few other names in the past. I think my owned domain count is down to about 15 now. In early 2000, I found myself on the road a lot, which opened me to many new people and adventures, now I tend to concentrate on local activities, racing, camping and cold beer. Sometime, I wonder who I am. So, this particular post will be shared with other friends in a Social Media Group I’m involved with this week. I look forward to their comments. Have you fought with yourself over various social avenues? Your thoughts please!
