What June? When did that happen? Lots This Week in Opelika!

Welcome to Hurricane Season. It started today!  Let’s see how it works out.  Lot’s this week. First, this reminder from Velinda from Opelika Main Street: The Main Street Farmers Market opens Tuesday afternoon! The market hours are 3-6pm each Tuesday throughout the summer and will be held along South Railroad Avenue between 8th and 9th Street. The Opelika firefighters will be lending a hand with setting up and taking down the tents and tables and it looks like it will be a beautiful day and a great way to get the season kicked off.

The Summer Swing is over at Monkey Park. Neil Diamond Tribute Artist Conner Lorre is a top tier singer with a fun and unique talent. He dazzles his audiences as a singing voice impersonator. Conner Lorre is clearly one of the best Neil Diamond voice impersonators in the world. Almost certainly the best you’ve ever heard.  The Opelika Band Boosters will prepare Summer Swing Sack Suppers in the park for a nominal fee from 6:15-7:30 p.m. Their hamburgers and hot dogs are ideal for a family picnic and the home-made ice cream is delicious.  RBC Bank of Opelika will provide complimentary lemonade during the concerts. The Rocky Brook Rocket, a vintage train with a long, rich history, has been restored and is back on the tracks for complimentary train rides. Come out early! Bring the whole family, a quilt or lawn chair and relax on the bank of Rocky Brook Creek for an evening of musical fun, fellowship and relaxation.

Opelika City Council meets Tuesday Night.  A couple of things on the agenda.  The Charter Cable franchise is up for renewal for the city. The City has asked for public comment, so grab the torch, pitchfork, club and join the fun. Not that the City of Opelika has a lot of options.  There was a study done on the city doing cable, so let’s see if that comes out.  Plus, an Introduction of a new Entertainment Center for Downtown.   Maybe the Mayor will comment here!
