Time for Jerry Katz to get His Journal On!

JournalI’ve never been one to keep a written journal. Especially when computers came along and  I could just type stuff. I always felt the blog I’ve done since the late 1990’s was my journal. And there have been plenty of apps for that as well.  Although I’d have to admit that I’ve lost many post as the blog has taken on new looks over time.

Several months ago, friend George Purves was flipping thru the pages of one he keeps. He got into doing this years ago and has one for each year. What I found interesting in the way he does his, is the added newspaper clippings from notable events of the day. Not every day gets a clipping, but those events that will stand out in people’s minds for decades to come do.  Along with those clippings some personal perspective of the event as a sort of “Where was I when this happened?”

I guess Debbie saw me looking at the variety of Journals she has at the Gallery on Railroad last month as she apparently told Santa I might be interested. So there under the Purves tree (Santa couldn’t find mine apparently) and from Santa, a leather bound journal. The pages are made from recycled cotton, not trees, which I found interesting. Makes for an interesting writing surface, which is unlined and open for free expression.  George advised me on Christmas night that it took him several years to get into regular writing, but he’s pretty much built a daily routine that ends the day with some notes.  So I came home and penned my first note. We’ll see how it goes, but I believe I can get this going for me! Thanks to good friends for getting me started on this new writing adventure!
