The House Project

This is one of several posts from May 2004 as I purchased an old house in downtown. Here are thoughts on that along the way. I have posted on the date from then to build a true timeline.

Here’s the House Project..  The House is a 1900 home on the National Register of Historic Places, with a brief mention.  So, my project for the next few months is to restore it to its original image in Downtown Opelika. (1/1/04)

Not much going on around the project with me out of town, from what I understand.  I’ve posted some more pictures of the Insulation Process.  See the link in the next paragraph. (2/5/04)

House Project Update!  Work begins on the inside this week.  I hope to have some new pics before I leave for Dallas! So what was that song… You’ve got to Break Up to Make Up…. In the House world it must be “You’ve got to Tear Up to Fix Up!!”  The picture is of the Master Bedroom Ceiling!  It seems there isn’t an opening to the crawl space, cause there isn’t any crawl space.  However, a strong hammer and soft plaster can create a nice opening so the crew can pump in the insulation!  The stuff really works when it’s in the ceilings and walls.  I can actually feel the quite in the house. There’s an 85 “R” rating in the attic, which is above the Alabama Code Requirements.  It was good to see what’s up there.  I can tell you the house was build to last a few hundred years.  You don’t find the construction like this in houses of today.  The process of installing the insulation required punching holes in the walls between the studs and pumping the area full of this processed newsprint.  That’s right, there’s probably an old OA News with an Arlo and Janis Strip squeezed into the walls of the house now.
