And from Jan Gunter with the city, The City of Opelika, partnered with Engineering Service Associates, Inc (ESA), will begin collecting GPS locations and recording vital information necessary to better document and manage the City of Opelika’s Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Infrastructure. This work is scheduled to begin Monday, February 9th 2009.
The crews will consist of city personnel driving city vehicles, as well as a field data collection crew from ESA. This crew will consist of two adult males wearing orange safety vests and a yellow backpack with antenna. They will be driving a burgundy four door Chevrolet Silverado pickup with black ESA decals and Alabama tag.
We anticipate the field data collection to start each day around 7am and continue until 4 pm on most days (weather permitting) for 4 – 6 weeks (completing Phase 1of the City of Opelika’s Asset Management System by mid to late March).
The data being collected on the sewer and stormwater system includes the collection of GPS coordinates and photographs of each manhole, pump station, treatment plant, culvert, detention pond, and other relevant features. The items being collected will require the crews to physically visit areas within City-owned and/or maintained Right-of-ways and parcels.
Folks at the city wanted you to know, in the event you see these guys in your yard (on city right of way) in coming weeks.
