Sundilla welcomes the month of May by bringing in a bright ray of sunshine, the incomparable SONiA and Disappear Fear. This super-talented duo will take the stage on Friday, May 1 at 7:30; admission is just $10, $8 for students, and free for children 12 and under.
A brief history lesson, to lessen the confusion: Disappear Fear was formed in 1987 and consisted of SONiA Rutstein and her sister Cindy. They released a few CDs, garnered some major critical acclaim, and were really going places, but in the mid-90s Cindy decided to give up the world of musical stardom, choosing instead a life of homemaking and motherhood. SONiA soldiered on as a solo act, and continued to rake in the same praise that she and Cindy had been getting. In fact, things went even better than expected for SONiA, in part because going solo had forced her to adapt and grow as a singer, songwriter and performer. (If you knew about Sundilla in early 1998, you might have seen SONiA perform here then.) In 2005 SONiA re-formed Disappear Fear, with Laura Cerulli taking the place of SONiA’s sister. But, “The music of Sonia and Disappear Fear is one of the same,” SONiA explains. “But the arrangements are different. With the band there’s harmony, there’s bass, there’s percussion.”
