Reflections from the Fourth

070414_Jerry_KatzThis past Fourth of July was one of those perfect weekends. Weather the past week in Opelika was great, cooler temperatures in the 80’s and a great breeze no doubt part of the larger outer rings of Arthur on the east coast.  The perfect way to celebrate our independence from England is to hang out with an Englishman and his wife, which I tend to do each year. Sitting poolside with friends, listening to a variety of Patriotic songs while having a refreshing summer beverage is my idea of a great holiday. Okay, the shrimp Tacos were a nice touch.  Had it not been for a tumble I had when exiting the pool, and some pain from the fall, it was great.

But this weekend is also another anniversary, a new Independence Day of sorts. Just over four years ago a company I had been with or thirteen years had a series of layoffs, which got me in May. But July 5th, just two months after that I walked into the corporate offices of my new employer, BroadView Software in Toronto.  Along with getting to meet staff, I saw a Blue Jays Game that week, a Canadian Football League game and did a wine Tour of the Niagara Region, south of Toronto.  Since then my roll has changed or should I say evolved. It’s great to be a part of BroadView as the Corporate Offices expand this summer and our staff increases in size this year with additional hires in several areas to keep pace with demands of current and new clients!
