Welcome to the Privet Pull – And trust it’s the last! Well, it was a good thing that Jimmy Johnson came by with the Blue Ford Truck, cause I think if I’d put the chain on the Beetle, it would have pulled me forever in the bushes, never to be found again. Richard came over around 11AM, after Jim and I had pulled out a few of the monster bushes. He said it looked like we had it under control and we didn’t see him again until after 4! My Doctor came by to say he was glad I was finally getting some exercise. The crazy Doctor Purvis dropped by and worried that he’d parked his sports car a bit too close to the chains and screeching tires. Copper for the Rail came by with some decorating tips for inside the house. He is also credited with saving the last six feet of the hedge. I’m not sure at that point we could have pulled another hedge out of the ground. Thanks, Jim, for the assist!

I closed on the house on Tuesday and had a meeting with John Marsh (Restorationist) today to review some final details of my project for him. I should get a schedule of his work in days. But there is some stuff I can do on the outside and around the house now. The First Project is the “Privet Hedge” that hides the charm of this 100-year-old-plus house. Now, I have several opinions on what I should do. Trim it back neatly and lower, or just rip it out and start over with the front yard. So, this Saturday around 11 AM it’s our First & Last Privet Pull downtown. We’ve got chains and trucks, and the hedge is coming down! I’m thinking I’m going to get in touch with the current landlord, Fay (her son has a nursery), and gather lots of azaleas to add some new color to the neighborhood. (1/22/04)
