Planning Meetings Get Under Way in Opelika

Howard Blackson speaks to group in Opelika City Council Chambers

The City of Opelika and Envision Opelika have partnered together and hired Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood to develop a Development Plan that will guide the process of bringing businesses and residents back to downtown.  They will be meeting with the public, government officials, community organizations, business owners and other groups to develop the draft Development Plan between May 18th and May 21st.  There will be 2 more opportunities in May for the public to participate in the planning process.  Anyone interested in affecting the future of downtown Opelika may attend.

About 30 folks gathered at City Council Chambers on Monday Night to get an overview of the study to be performed in Opelika this week.  Anyone intrested in the future growth of the city should plan to attend a meeting.  Eddie Smith was on hand to represent the City of Opelika and City Council. It would have been nice to have the Ward Two Councilmember present, since the downtown is in his Ward!
