Opelika to *Hunker Down for Cold Weather (i.e. Snow or Ice)

*Hunker Down: to take shelter, literally or figuratively; to assume a defensive position to resist difficulties.

012714 WeatherWe are so funny in the south. The weather guys on TV feed our frenzy for the impending storm, that in most cases doesn’t really make it’s big showing. Forcasters call for some rain after midnight, beginning about 2AM locally, then at 7 AM, the chances of Rain or Precepitation jump to 80%. With temperatures below freezing, it could make for an interesting morning in Opelika and Auburn. All the local schools have already announced a Snow day on Tuesday, whatever the weather. It is after all, Better Safe than Sorry! Now, I’ve been through more than a few of these freezing weather events in the South. If it happens, just stay home and enjoy the time away from work. Well, for those of us that work from home, it could be business as usual. I’ve got a Gas stove, so I can cook. I grabbed some extra fuel for my generator, if I need electric power and even tested the generator to make sure it works.  I’ve got plenty to eat and did grab some extra (cold) beverages in the event I can’t head to my favorite Tavern Tuesday Night. After all, with temperatures below freezing, I can just sit those cans on the front porch to keep them at the proper temperature.  I’m not ready for the zombie apocalypse, but I can deal with a day or so without power.

The official weather guys are calling for a Winter Storm Warning. And they say…”A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL… KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT… FOOD… AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW… SLEET… AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.”. Sorry for the Al Caps thing, but that’s the way theiy report stuff to increase our awareness (aka panic). I can hear the guys in the Toronto office laughing at us now! Hunker Down Folks!
