For Adam Hood and Dallas Dorsey Jr., a last-minute call turned into one of the biggest nights of their careers — and a homecoming roughly 20 years in the making.
Both musicians trace parts of their story to Opelika, and their paths have been intertwined for about two decades. When another artist withdrew from Ella Langley’s tour, her manager asked Hood whether he could take the date in Auburn. Hood rescheduled a Huntsville performance and brought Dorsey along as part of the bill.
Dorsey learned of the opportunity around 3:15 p.m. the day before the show. “I had a flood of different thoughts like joy, gratitude and even unbelief,” he said. “I prayed and thanked the Lord. My daughter, wife and I are Ella fans. My daughter sings all of her songs, and I thought it was a dream or something.”
For Hood, Neville Arena carried memories long before he played it — he grew up in the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum era of Auburn basketball. The Observer has the full account of how the two friends ended up on the same hometown-adjacent stage.
