Opelika Nonprofit Will Name New Training Center for Fallen Auburn Graduate Maj. Alex Klinner

OPELIKA โ€” 2nd Mission Alliance, the faith-based nonprofit that serves veterans and first responders at its 26-acre Selah property in Opelika, will build a training center named for Air Force Maj. John “Alex” Klinner, the Auburn University graduate killed in a KC-135 crash in Iraq earlier this year.

The Maj. Alex Klinner Leadership & Training Center will add about 5,000 square feet of covered space for the organization’s K9, equine and veteran programs, according to the nonprofit. Construction is set to begin next month, with a ceremony at Selah on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 8 a.m.

Klinner, 33, was one of six airmen killed in the March crash. A Trussville native and Auburn graduate, he had flown 362 combat hours across four deployments; the Lee County Commission passed a resolution honoring him in March. He is survived by his wife, Libby, and three young children.
