Opelika High School theatre director Revel Gholston received the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s 2026 Hall of Fame Award on Aug. 22 at a ceremony in Montgomery, according to a contributed item in The Observer. The award is reserved for people who have done original or groundbreaking work with a lasting impact on theatre in Alabama.

Gholston has been at Opelika High since January 2001 and has directed more than 78 productions. His Opelika High Theatre Society shows have won Best in Show at the state Trumbauer Festival with “Children of Eden-Act II” (2016) and “The Quilt” (2023), and OHTS was the first high school in Alabama to perform Disney’s “Frozen.” He was the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2012.

“Revel Gholston has an extraordinary gift for seeing potential in students, often before they see it in themselves,” OHS Principal Kelli Fischer said. The Opelika High Theatre Society’s current production, “Come From Away,” has its final performances Oct. 1, 3 and 4 at the Opelika Center for the Performing Arts.
