Opelika Alabama Goes No Smoking!

Opelika Alabama Goes No Smoking! I went to the City Council Work Session on the Non Smoking Plan at 5PM today. The American Cancer Society had a big group at the meeting to discuss the bad things of smoking. Exposing those in an office to the effects of smoking. It was a well organized group. (Okay – I give each payday to the Cancer Society and will participate in the Relay for Life, so I’m not really the bad guy here!) The 25 Foot Limit around the door of a business was reduced to 10 feet (or as Jerry Teel said, it’s just 3 steps). Bar’s got the exemption for this rule. Only 25% of the revenues of these places is from food. Wayne’s would get by this, but according to city officials, Waynes is considered a resturant and will have to put out the smokes! Alabama is just following what’s a national tradition. The State of Georgia is pretty much a Non Smoking State. Some might ask, then why is smoking still legal, and producing taxes for cities and states.
