Opelika Council Faces Sept. 1 Hearing on Top Shelf Alternatives’ Business License

August 27, 2026 — Opelika, AL

The Opelika City Council returns Tuesday, Sept. 1, for a public hearing on whether to revoke the business license of Top Shelf Alternatives, whose owners have been charged in a criminal case. The hearing is set for 6 p.m. in the courtroom of the Opelika Municipal Court Building, 300 Martin Luther King Blvd.

The council set the hearing at its Aug. 18 meeting, the same night it revoked the business license of Wild Wing Cafe after a separate hearing. City law requires the business be given notice of the hearing and the grounds for the proposed revocation at least 10 days in advance.

The city’s public notices published Aug. 27 also carry ordinances transmitted to and approved by Mayor Eddie Smith on Aug. 19, along with the standard ADA accommodation contact for residents who need assistance attending. Council agendas are posted at opelika-al.gov the Friday before each meeting.
