Opelika Adopts $185 Million FY2027 Budget; Sales Tax Projected at $52.3 Million

OPELIKA — The Opelika City Council approved the city’s budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 at its Sept. 1 meeting.

As reported by the Opelika Observer, the citywide FY2027 budget projects roughly $184.96 million in revenues and other financing sources against about $178.2 million in expenditures and transfers across governmental, special revenue, internal service and proprietary funds.

The General Fund accounts for approximately $92.08 million in revenues before other financing sources. Sales and use tax remains the city’s workhorse at a projected $52.3 million, followed by occupational license fees at $12.7 million, property tax at $7.8 million and business license revenue at $4.625 million.

The occupational license rate was reduced from 1.5% to 1% beginning in April 2025, a cut that continues to shape the city’s revenue mix.

Detailed budget coverage is available from the Observer.
