OFD Annual Report: New Quint Truck Deployed, Station 2 Rebuild Planned

July 20–23, 2026 — Opelika, AL

Opelika Fire Chief Shane Boyd’s 2025 annual report highlights significant progress in expanding the city’s fire protection network. The department acquired its first Quint apparatus — a Sutphen SL 75-foot aerial ladder truck with a 2,000-gpm pump and 500-gallon water tank — now operating out of Station 4 on Lake Condy Road.

The chief also outlined plans to completely rebuild the 65-year-old Fire Station 2 on Pepperell Parkway, which has exceeded its operational lifespan, and to begin long-term planning for a future Station 6 to serve the expanding Northeast Industrial Park area. The city and East Alabama Health previously reached a property exchange agreement to facilitate the Station 2 rebuild across Pepperell Parkway.
