LEE COUNTY — The Lee County Commission tabled the final plat for River Rock Subdivision, Phase II at its Sept. 14 meeting after residents living nearby raised questions about wells, septic systems and the state of the road serving the property.
The proposed subdivision fronts Lee Road 319 in District 3 and would create 23 lots using existing road frontage, with no new roads planned. The smallest lot would be slightly more than three-quarters of an acre. Residents asked whether 23 more homes on individual wells and septic systems could affect existing wells, and described a narrow, curving road, construction traffic and mud washing onto the pavement from land being cleared.
County officials noted that wells and septic approvals fall to the Lee County Health Department, not the commission. District 3 Commissioner Jeff Drury asked for the plat to be tabled while he gathered more information on the health department review and road conditions; the commission voted unanimously to do so.
Commissioners did approve the final plat for Boulder Lakes Subdivision in District 4, a 10-lot development off Lee Road 179 that drew no opposition. They also approved a one-day ABC special events license for Grain and Leaf at the 21 Acres facility on Wire Road for Sept. 25, and accepted the transfer of the Twin Cedars Child Advocacy Center building back to the county. County COO Blake Beck said Twin Cedars will no longer serve as Lee County’s child advocacy provider, and because the property can only be used for child advocacy, ownership returns to the commission until a new organization is in place.
