July 29, 2026 — Opelika, AL

Opelika Mayor Eddie Smith delivered his first State of the City address on Wednesday, July 29, at the Opelika Performing Arts Center, hosted by the Opelika Chamber of Commerce. Smith outlined the city’s investments in education, economic development, public safety and infrastructure, while emphasizing that continued growth must be balanced with protecting Opelika’s character.

The mayor noted the city generated more than $130 million in total revenue during the past fiscal year. Among the highlights: the economic development team is launching a three-phase workforce support campus, with phase one calling for a medical clinic to open by early next year, followed by childcare and training centers in phases two and three.
