Lee County Schools Adjusts to New Grade-Level Model in Smiths Station Area

August 18, 2026 — Lee County, AL

Lee County Schools is working through the first weeks of a grade-level organizational model at four elementary campuses in the Smiths Station area. Instead of attending a neighborhood school, students are now assigned to campuses by grade band.

The board took up the transition along with routine business at an Aug. 18 special meeting; its next regular meeting is set for Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. Board members also approved a slate of out-of-state and overnight student travel requests for the 2026-27 year, including wrestling, choir and athletic events in February and April 2027.
