Lee County Commission Approves Fleet Plan and One-Time Retiree Bonus

LEE COUNTY β€” Aug. 12, 2026

The Lee County Commission approved a vehicle fleet proposal and a one-time bonus for county retirees at its most recent meeting, the Opelika Observer reported Aug. 11.

Under the fleet plan, the county intends to sell its highest-mileage trucks while holding onto units with better remaining value for future replacement, a response to per-unit costs that have climbed sharply.

Commissioners also approved a resolution allowing Lee County to participate in Act 2026-608, the state law providing a one-time lump-sum payment to eligible retirees and to beneficiaries of deceased retirees. Other Alabama counties adopting the act have scheduled the payments for October.

The commission additionally took up two retail liquor license applications for Premium Pours LLC β€” one for a Sept. 18 event at Twenty-One Acres, 5505 Wire Road in Auburn, and one for a Sept. 25 event at Stone and Ivy, 2611 Columbus Parkway in Opelika.
