Labor Day Closes Opelika City Offices Monday; Garbage Routes Slide a Day

September 1, 2026 — Opelika, AL

Most city facilities in Opelika and Auburn are closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, and garbage, trash and recycling routes will run one day behind for the rest of the week. Monday customers are collected Tuesday, and so on through the week.

The Opelika Police Department’s administrative, records and evidence offices are closed for the holiday; patrol, fire and utility operations continue as normal. Residents with garbage questions can reach Opelika Power Services at 334-705-5170.

Labor Day is one of the paid holidays the city observes for all eligible employees except public safety, emergency and public utility staff.
