Jones and Tuberville Launch First TV Ads in Alabama Governor’s Race

Both nominees for Alabama governor are now on television. Republican U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Democrat and former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones each released their first ads of the general election this week, opening the paid-media phase of a rematch of their 2020 Senate contest.

Tuberville’s spot, titled around the line “Less taxes, more results,” contrasts his tax positions with his opponent’s and pledges to end the state grocery tax.

Jones’ ad goes after Tuberville over campaign money from data center developers, arguing that Alabamians’ concerns about electric bills, water use and the effect of the projects on their communities are being dismissed while developers collect state tax breaks — a theme Jones has pressed for weeks, including a call for Tuberville to divest AI and data center holdings.

Tuberville, who lives in Auburn, also weighed in Tuesday night on a Labor Day weekend in Montgomery that left 10 people shot and one dead, posting that “this WILL NOT continue.” Polling this summer showed him leading Jones 49% to 41%. The election is Nov. 3.
