I always like to see a text message from a friend at the Local Miller Distributor asking if I can meet him somewhere downtown because he has something he wants me to try. Ā I mean, he works at a Beer Distributor after all, why would I not meet him! Thus was the case last week, as Miller-Coors is getting ready to roll out a new beer to compete with the Budweiser Platinum brand that came out in 2012. Ā The new Miller Fortune is kicking up the alcohol content a bit more with 6.9% alcohol by volume vs the 6% for the Bud product. Now, Iāve never been one to judge a beer on its alcohol content, and although I am a supporter of the higher gravity stuff, Iām not a big drinker of it. And to be honest, I donāt particularly like the taste of Platinum, but I like this new offering from the Miller guys. Coming on the heels of what I think is a brilliant āOld White Canā promotion (my words), this beer has bit more bite than the usual Miller Lite or Miller 64 (my current beer of choice) I would drink, but thereās no pain after the bite and after a few sips itās quite smooth. Please note, I am writing this as I down the first of two I have for this posting. The Miller press guys say the beer is one āwith edge, intrigue and charisma.ā And since all of those words seem to describe me as well, Iām okay with it. One of the ads Iāve seen for the launch of the beer urges drinkers to āOpen Pandoraās Bottleā, which is like me on Patron, but thatās a different story for a different time. The beer should be appearing February in an all āBlack Bottleā with an embossed logo. The one (uh⦠two) Iām having is a regular bottle with a funky Sample Only Label on it (Pictured)
As I move to my second and unfortunately final bottle of this new brew, I personally think that many will find favor with it. I know that being a Bud or Miller fan is akin to being an Auburn or Alabama fan. You pick your team (aka brewery) and stick with it, but this new beer may bring over a few from the āRedā side (Thatās Bud Red, Not Alabama Crimson, Okay!), but thatās just me.
