Ivey Activates Statewide Emergency Notification System for Floods and Disasters

MONTGOMERY — Aug. 27, 2026

Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday the activation of Alabama’s new statewide emergency notification system, which alerts residents by phone, text, television and radio in the event of floods and other disasters.

Alabamians opt in to receive the alerts. The governor set aside $1.2 million for the system in her Jan. 13 State of the State address, calling it a priority after a 2025 flood at a Texas summer camp killed 27 people, including 8-year-old Sarah Marsh of Birmingham.

The system is intended to close gaps in how quickly warnings reach residents in rural and low-signal parts of the state.
