Hoover Holds Off Opelika 21-7 in Bulldogs’ Season Opener

August 27, 2026 — Opelika, AL

Kaleb Freeman accounted for three touchdowns and Hoover’s defense stiffened when it mattered as the sixth-ranked Buccaneers handed Opelika a 21-7 loss Thursday night at Bulldog Stadium in the AHSAA/Alabama Public Television Game of the Week.

Opelika rotated two quarterbacks in its first game of the 2026 season. Head coach Jonathan Chandler addressed the team on the field afterward, and the Opelika marching band performed at halftime before a full house on opening night.
