I drove around to grab some pictures on Sunday afternoon of some of the work in downtown Opelika. Some old buildings require some modern updates to bring them to code. Here’s the new fire escape under construction! One example is the old bank building at the corner of Avenue A and South 8th Street (Jackie’s Cards & Gifts building). Buddy Steve had commented earlier that we should still have a bank there and go find some government bailout bucks. But, nope, as second and third floor condos are part of this redo. Inside the building, where the old staircase is located, will be an elevator for the residents.
