Governor’s Commission on Classroom Screen Time Holds First Meeting

MONTGOMERY — Aug. 20, 2026

The Governor’s Commission on Screen-Based Instruction met for the first time in Montgomery on Monday, beginning a study of how laptops, tablets, smartboards and other screens affect student learning and well-being.

Gov. Kay Ivey created the commission by Executive Order 745 in July. Members discussed goals and scope at the opening meeting, including how much instructional time is screen-based and what the benefits and risks are for students.

The commission faces a Dec. 1 deadline to deliver findings and recommendations.
