August 14, 2026 — Opelika, AL
The City of Opelika warned residents to expect temporary garbage collection delays after several of its garbage trucks went out of service. Environmental Services crews continued running regular routes, but the city said some households — particularly back-door collection customers — could see pickups slip by one or two days.
Residents whose trash was not collected on their designated day were asked to leave containers out overnight; crews planned to return and finish routes by the following day, with all pickups completed by the end of the week. ‘We understand the importance of dependable garbage collection and apologize for any inconvenience these temporary delays may cause,’ the city said.
