Former Columbus Officer Charged With Impersonating Police After Lee County Traffic Stop

August 4, 2026 โ€” Lee County, AL

A Phenix City woman has been charged with felony impersonating a peace officer after a traffic stop in Smiths Station, according to WAKA 8.

Investigators say a Lee County deputy stopped a driver in the 200 block of Lee Road 600 on July 31 for an expired tag. The driver, identified as Shaina Miller, 32, produced what appeared to be an ID card and told the deputy she was an officer with the Columbus Police Department.

After the stop, the deputy contacted the department and was told Miller no longer worked there. He returned to the area, stopped her a second time and asked for the police ID, which she surrendered; she said she had left the department in 2024 and admitted using the ID to get out of tickets at traffic stops.

Miller was booked into the Lee County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond and has since been released. CNAW 2 also reported the arrest.
