While digging thru some paperwork to find some old tax records today, I came accross several old pictures and things from the past. Thought it would be fun to share it here. Sorry, but the time line is not in order!
One was the OA News from Friday, May 29, 1998 which featured a story about a couple of canidates for DA that appeared on my morning show on WANI. One was invited and the other came on his own. The best show I ever did, if you ask me. I’ll take some time and transcripe the article in coming weeks, but thought the front page would be interesting, if just to look at. Nick Abbott won that race for DA!

And then there was this picture from the days of Radio ownership (WIZB – Z943 – Classic Hits) in Headland Alabama. That’s me on the top left, Meckly (who did a sports show on the station) to my right, and in the lower right, Yep, that Lopez of the Braves at that time. Now, first row left is the lead in a rock band I should know, but can’t remember, and top right is another name I can’t remember. Meck had Lopez in town to do Free autographs at the local Holiday Inn for several hours as an event the station hosted. Heck, Meck did all the work. That’s probably 1994 or 1995 in the time line. (Notice that Meck has that Pepsi can in his hand. The local Pepsi guys were one of his big sponsors. Did he know how to promote or what?) Had I thought, I could have had a Miller Lite, cause they were spending bucks on the station. Darn!!

Along about the same time as the Northcutt Speakman “War of the Worlds”, Cartoonist Jimmy Johnson was sponsoring a soft ball tourney in Auburn. That’s where I met him after an radio interview and now we’re best friends. I’m sure he’ll tell me the exact date, but this was in 1997 or 1998. Jim sent me this Thank You after the games.

And from about 1975-76 – A record promoter brings by this young Country Singer that is trying to cross over into pop music. I was music director at WSAV-AM in Savannah at the time. So, Tanya tucker joins me on the show and we play her record. After looking at this picture, I ask, where’s the grey and where would you buy a shirt like this? And didn’t we have color film back then? And how come, radio guys always talk with their eyes closed? (I guess not to have to look at their shirts!!) Hey jenny, this is around the time you were born. Scary, huh?

And one more picture I found in that brown envelope today. A young LT in the Air National Guard on a deployment for Avalance Express in Norway in March of 1984. As much as our mission was to interface the US Radar system with the Norweigan Air Force, we also spent some time in the schools with the kids. That skinny guy is me. How funny! And look, it’s black & white, where’s the color film?

And the final picture from memory lane is a Radio Show just a few years ago in San Francisco. We’re doing a boat ride under the Golden Gate Bridge, and I’m still a bit weak in the tummy.

That was fun. I should spend more time looking in my drawers for post! (Did I say that?)
