Dream Achievers

The theme for this years event noted in the previous post is Dream Achievers. This was the 10th Anniversary of the MLK Observance Day Program.  It was an interesting and learning overview of some of Opelika’s Black Community with various “First”.  I’ll update this list with those folks in coming days.  Reverand George Bandy received the 2009 Dream Achievers Award. The Dream Achievers Hallelujah Choir, made up of kids from Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church had the Center rocking when they sang.

Dream Achievers Hallelujah Choir

The production, had kids (aka young folks) in the roles of various well know blacks in the community and nation.  From where I was sitting in the back row, that might have been Barack and his family down there when they introduced him and the family walked accross the stage.  It was very entertaining for those that took the time to attend. By the way, the Performing Arts Center seats 1145, and all seats were taken, there were folks standing and that doesn’t even count the 125 kids on stage in the choir.
